Dragon Eyes (Long Yan He)
Imagine finding a truly good tasting iced tea that is wonderful with food and refreshing. Then imagine the same leaves steeped and served hot as a highly aromatic, fruity black tea. While there are a great number of infused teas produced in China, our Dragon Eyes is a traditional favorite in Fujian Province and rarely found outside China.
Why we selected this lot. The tea maker is well known for his work with jasmine scented teas. Each year, as one enters his tasting room, the scent of Longan fruit is evident. This year's lot is vibrant with aroma and flavor. The leaves are smaller size indicating a slightly sweeter cup. It balanced, tastes clean and is refreshing.
Interesting facts about this tea. Dragon Eyes makes an excellent iced tea beverage. Add ice and there is no clouding. Wonderful served with food. It is most widely consumed in Fujian Province. The considered better cup is made using a smaller leaf varietal verse a larger leaf. Tea is infused with the juice of the Longan berry, a bright red fruit.
Taste profile. Offers a very distinct, strongly sweet and fruity cup with a lingering finish. An excellent tea served hot and absolutely wonderful served chilled as iced tea.
Brewing suggestions. Use 3 grams for 8-12 ounces of water at a temperature of 195-205 F. Steep for 2-3 minutes and taste. For iced tea, place 1 ounce of leaves in a pitcher and pour on water at 195-205 F and let the leaves steep for 8-10 minutes. Strain the leaves and pour off the brewed tea. Add one gallon of cold water and enjoy.

I bought this tea for my mate because she's a black tea drinker. (me I'm a green ,and occasionally pu-erh & oolong person) She drinks here tea English style (milk and sugar) she loves the taste & the Longan fruit stays on the palate ever so lightly after you swallow.I tasted her tea and was pleasantly surprised

I just discovered this tea from a friend and ordered some from Silk Road. It is a wonderfully fragrant black tea. It is fantastic with with almond milk.

When you need something different try this one. Very fragrant, makes a great afternoon tea to wake up the senses. I would not drink it as an everyday tea but as something to change up the pace it is great.

Wow! This tea is richly fragrant. My apologies to those with sophisticated pallets but this just reminds me of sharing good food and good times at Christmas. Unlike many scented teas, the quality of the leaf is good and strongly supports the longan so it can really shine. I’m not usually one to have milk or sugar with tea but I just may try with this one. I certainly recommend this one.
