Black Fragrance is in the class of spring teas known as "fresh tea". These are early harvest teas made using longheld traditions of farming and processing of the leaves to create aromas and flavors favored in the local area. Typically, they are made in small lots as fresh new buds and leaves emerge and are not made for export. In this case, our lot was grown on a small farm along the coast of Fujian Province.

Lot Notes. An exceptional black tea, it is grown and processed using the Mei Zhan cultivar. Pluck standard is fine grade. Lot was harvested in the first week of April 2024. We find rich, deep, multi-layered black tea flavors.

Tea Facts. Farm is located at an elevation of 600+ meters. Cultivar is MeiZhan, a slow growing, compact leaf, dense in aromas and offering strong flavors. Tea was fired using bamboo baskets over wood fires. The uniformity of the leaves aids in creating a smooth, well-rounded cup taste.

Tasting Notes. This black offers an unusually sweet fragrance and complex flavor that grows in the mouth. We find notes of molasses, burnt sugar, and light stone fruit. One will note its lingering finish and how it makes you feel after consuming.

Brewing Suggestions. Use one round teaspoon of leaf for 4-8 ounces of water at a temperature of 195F . Steep for 2 minutes and taste. For more body, steep 3 minutes. The leaves will offer multiple steeps.
