Welcome to Silk Road Teas, your source for artisan and rare teas from China.

Silk Road Teas was founded 16 years ago by David Lee Hoffman. Through extensive travel in the provinces of southestern China, David gained a knowledge of Chinese specialty teas that is unusual outside its borders. Seeking out teas grown using traditional organic methods found on small farms, David began to establish supply sources for some of China's most prized competition-grade varietals. These relationships form the basis of our business today.

The teas we offer have been grown and processed by true artisans of the leaf. We buy our teas at markets, small farms, and through selected tea companies, ensuring that our teas are handpicked, carefully processed and unblended. Our customers enjoy China's competition grade teas, teas that otherwise are consumed domesticaly and rarely exported. Each year, we travel in the provinces of Yunnan, Fujian, Anhui, Hunan, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Guangxi to find the teas we offer to you.

It is our belief that some of the best teas are harvested early in the season when the days are beginning to warm and the nights cooler. In that small window, the leaves are fresh and tender and offer a nuanced taste that will fade and soften with warming weather and shorter nights. Our lots are unblended and we preserve these lots for our customers enjoyment. Increasingly, we are sourcing certified organic teas to compliment our traditionally grown teas. Once purchased, our teas are handled by our Chinese partners, who carefully prepare them for shipment to ensure their freshness and quality.

Silk Road Teas is primarily a wholesaler. We sell to high-end tea purveyors throughtout the United States and Canada. Many of our teas are sold under the label of other companies as we do not brand and package our teas. Further, we have a large and loyal retail customer base, people who regularly call us and order teas direct. We encourage this relationship and enjoy talking with our customers about our teas. We greatly appreciate these customers and work to provide them a great cup each and every time. Silk Road Teas can also be found in quality retail outlets that feature a bulk tea sales format as well as tea shops, restaurants and cafes thoughout the U.S.
