The fragrances of jasmine flowers scent our lot of Jasmine Silver Tip. Grown in Fujian Province, Silver Tip is a Jasmine Yin Hao style green tea. Yin Hao's are higher grades of green tea, one will note an abundance of silver buds and its rich green leaves. Traditionally, the jasmine flower petals used to scent the tea are removed from the finished tea. Jasmine scented teas are often given as gifts or served with meals around the holidays and New Years.

Lot Notes. Lot was harvested in 2024. The base Yin Hao style green is naturally sweet and has the body to match well with the jasmine scent. The scenting is traditional style making the tea taste is quite natural and smooth. The finish is lasting!

Tea Facts. Yin Hao is made using small leaf varietal that has a very permeable leaf surface. Higher grades are plucked early in the spring and have a high content of silver leaves or unopened buds. The leaf is indirectly or slowly dried to preserve the flavor of the leaf and maintain its natural shape. The leaves are then kept cool until the jasmine flowers blossom later in the summer.  The timing of the jasmine harvest is critical to get just the right scent and sweetness.

Tasting Notes. The jasmine scent is natural, sweet and not too strong, making the tea soothing and pleasingly balanced. Light vegetal notes, jasmine flavors. Good for everyday use and always a relaxing cup.

Brewing Suggestions. Use 2.5 or 3 grams of leaf for 8-12 ounces of water. Water temp of 185-195 F is best and steep for 2 minutes and taste. This tea can steep longer if greater flavor is desired; over steeping will bring on some astringency.

GREEN TEA

3 grams/1 teaspoon per 6 ounces of water

170° - 195° F

2 Minutes

Full-leaf green teas will open to layered, delicate flavors. The freshly picked leaves are dehydrated to prevent oxidization and preserve their natural green color. Japanese green teas are steamed to preserve their fresh aromas and flavor notes. It is best if green tea is not brewed with boiling water.

Lower temperature water allows the leaves to steep slowly, preserving their natural sweetness. Green teas and yellow teas offer a gentle vegetal aroma. In the mouth, flavors range from spring asparagus and delicate notes of sorrel and raw vegetables to herbaceous and nutty.

This is the first good Yin Hao Jasmine tea I have had in years after having switched to organic version. I was beginning to think I'd never have my favorite tea again.

    Yin Hao Jasmine

Posted by Unknown on 18th Aug 2016

I've been drinking Yin Hao Jasmine tea for 25 years and it remains my favorite. I first purchased it at two different San Francisco tea shops (now both closed), then online, then at Peet's. Peet's now sells Mighty Leaf, (not the same), and I'm only drinking organic tea these days--so I found Silk Road Teas. Just to say--I've tasted many versions over many years, and this is my second 1/2 lb bag from SRT. It smells fresh and sweet in the bag, the color brewed is lighter--more yellow than gold--and for the amount I usually used, it is much weaker. I've thought of buying some plain jasmine tea and mixing it in. For now I'll just keep adding more per cup. I gave a third star for being organic, but it really isn't as good as any of the others I used to drink. I don't know if it is the organic process, or climate/seasonal issues, but it's not as flavorful, or fragrant once brewed, as what I'm used to.

    Where's the jasmine???

Posted by The Lighthouse on 3rd Jun 2016

I was looking for an alternative to Rishi's Jasmine Pearl OG Green tea which I have enjoyed for years. I'm always looking for another pleasurable variety and brand of green tea. I brewed this at 180F with fresh spring water and I'm disappointed. There's no jasmine aroma, the tea seems stale to me, and no matter that I'm using a tea thermometer and the right preparation I'm just disappointed compared to Rishi's jasmine pearl. Sorry, I was hoping to be more enthusiastic about this tea.
