A longstanding supplier for a number of our green and black tea offerings, Mr Wen, presented Spring Dragon in 2024 as a new and unusual offering using a local cultivar - number 43. He has repeated this process again this year. While forty-three is primarily used to make traditional Dragon Wells, Wen has taken the leaf in a new direction creating a bright and "fresh" spring green.
Lot Notes. Lot was harvested Pre-Qing Ming. The leaves are handcrafted to remarkably uniform & delicately curled shapes; in opening leaves release a fresh green tea flavor with a wonderful, passing note of Dragon Well. Given the cooler temperatures of the past spring, the leaves are small with stems attached. Appearance is deep green reminiscent of pan fired San Bai Xiang style.
Tea Facts. Cultivar is number 43 which has been cultivated for making traditional Dragon Wells. Sourcing farm elevation is 600 meters. Teas was harvested the first week of April 2025, handcrafted, and pan fired.
Taste Profile. We find an immediate passing flavor of Dragon Well. Early picked, the leaves open to notes of artichoke, then lemon in clean, fresh spring flavors. A very light astringency in the finish.
Brewing Suggestions. Our recommendation is 2 grams for 6 ounces of water at a temperature of 195F. Steep for two-2.5 minutes.
