Our Assam is grown in a rainy tropical plain that is one of the largest tea growing regions in the world. Assam tea is known for cultivating some of the world's strongest and full-bodied teas. Assam has long been prized for its range of flavors and aromas.
Lot notes. Grown and processed at the Kalgar Estate in the valley of the Brahmaputra River, an area of clay soil rich in the nutrients of the floodplain. Our lot is a second flush pluck, FTGFOp1, harvested in 2024. Offers classic Assam flavors and a refreshing aroma.
Tea facts. Grown in eastern India, the varietal is Camellia sinensis. Farm soils are a loamy type which contributes to the tea's rich and nuanced flavors.
Tasting notes. This lot is a classic Assam that is bright and crisp with notes of citrus peel followed by rich layers of whole grain and a sweet oaky finish. Flavors are enhanced with the addition of milk and sugar.
Brewing suggestions. For 8-12 ounces of water, at a temperature of 195-212 F, use one teaspoon of leaf. Steep for 3-4 minutes and enjoy!.
BLACK TEA
3 grams/1 teaspoon per 6 ounces of water
195° - 205° F

Black tea is a leaf that has been fully oxidized. This rigorous oxidization produces a tea of hearty rich flavors while reducing its astringency and bringing out a natural sweetness.
Flavors will range from bright, brisk, peppery, clean, and smoky to aromatic, bold, malty, nutty, spicy, and sweet. Blacks are known for long, delicately aromatic, and comforting aftertastes. Note, they are often enjoyed with milk or sweetener.

enjoyable
After 3, maybe 4 pots (24 oz.) of this Assam over about a 5 day period I have decided I am pleased with the purchase. It has all the characteristics I look for, smooth, biscuity flavor with just the right maltiness. This tea is similar to some of my favorite estates which I will not name. They are from the "A" list- easy to look up. There is nothing like several cups of premium Assam to brighten up my day, as an Assamese tea lover I am putting this tea on my "to buy" list.

Assam
Delicious. Can be a bit “tanniny” but I’ve learned to treat it like green tea. Use cooler water and shorter steep times than other black teas.

Delicious
Love the flavor and intensity. Perfect for my black tea addiction

Assam 2020
Sadly, the latest batch of Assam I purchased is meh. This is unusual because Silk Road teas are usually superb.

Assam
Very disappointing purchase. At this price $16, I knew it was not one of SR's best But this seemed to fall short of a full and hearty black tea and was more bitter than aromatic.

Excellent all-around black tea
Hard to over-steep, honest, simple, economic black tea. Lower caffeine content than a good strong cup of puer so I could see it being enjoyed in the afternoon, but I don't as I'm sensitive and would be up all night drinking anything with caffeine past 2p.m. Excellent buy.

Rich, full-bodied
My first cup of this Assam tea bowled me over. It has a very rich mouthfeel, full-bodied and satisfying. It holds milk and agave well for an excellent cup of tea. Sadly these days unflavored black teas are out of fashion in restaurants and homes. But to me this is the real deal.

Great black tea
I love just pure black tea with milk that has just enough flavor to make it interesting. This is a great substitute for English Breakfast tea. I love it and drink it every day a couple of times. It has a high enough doze of caffeine

Floral, malty fantasticness
