Our Downy Tip was grown on an island off the coast of Hangzhou, in the Zhou Shan Island complex. An early spring favorite, this cultivar is one of the first teas to make the marketplace at the onset of the harvest.
Lot Notes. Organically grown and processed on a small farm in the mountains of the island. Tea is a rich and full-bodied green, excellent enjoyed as an everyday, healthy beverage.
Tea Facts. Mao Jian is one of two grades of this green cultivar. It is grown throughout China primarily serving as an everyday tea. Leaf is thick, long and a mix of green and white bud. Best lots are harvested mid-to-late March into early April.
Tasting Notes. Richly vegetal in flavor and low in astringency. Cups to green-yellow liquor. Notes of chestnut. Tea has a pleasant warming effect on the body.
Brewing Suggestions. Use 3 grams or one teaspoon of leaf for 8-12 ounces of water at a temperature of 195 F. Steep for 2 - 2.5 minutes.
